Good coffee,
no fuss.

Independent café on the corner of the market square in Harrogate. Proper coffee, cakes baked this morning, dogs welcome.

About us

A small café run by two people who care a lot about breakfast.

We opened Bramble & Bean in 2021 with one espresso machine and a lot of optimism. Everything on the counter is baked here, the beans are roasted in Yorkshire, and the sausages come from the butcher three doors down.

About us

Two people, one espresso machine.

How a corner of the market square became our favourite place in Yorkshire.

Jo & Sam, behind the counter

We opened in 2021 with a second-hand La Marzocco and a lot of optimism.

Jo had spent ten years in London coffee shops and wanted to come home. Sam bakes. Between us we had just enough savings for the lease on the old chemist's on the corner, and the first morning we sold eleven coffees. Four of them to Jo's mum.

Five years on, the beans still come from a roaster twenty minutes up the road, the bread is still Sam's, and the sausages still come from the butcher three doors down. We know most of our regulars' orders before they reach the counter. The dogs get a biscuit; the humans get a proper flat white.

If you're new, come and say hello. Sit as long as you like.

Local, properly

Beans roasted in Yorkshire, milk from a farm in Nidderdale, eggs from down the road. We can tell you where everything came from.

Baked this morning

Sam's in at 5am. What you see on the counter was made today, and what doesn't sell goes to the food bank.

Everyone's welcome

Dogs, prams, laptops, the Sunday papers, a three-hour chat over one coffee. We mean it.
